Thomas Wagner’s expertise lies in the fields of Sustainable Business Models and Sustainable Business & Entrepreneurship. A focal point of his work is on digitalisation and Industry 4.0. Thomas develops sustainability strategies and identifies innovation potential for business models by applying Business Model Innovation methods as well as creative methods such as design thinking.

Prior to joining the CSCP, Thomas worked with the Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft (DEG), where he gained work experience in the area of development finance with a regional focus on Latin America. He has also worked at the Institute for Public Finance at the University of Cologne as well as at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies.

Thomas studied Economics and Political Sciences at the University of Cologne. During his studies, he spent one year in Chile studying at the Universidad Vina del Mar which included completion of an internship at the Department for International Relations in the National Congress of Chile.

At an early point in his academic career, Thomas saw the value in integrating sustainability in academia and society and served on the management board of oikos Cologne, a student initiative for sustainable economics and management. For his Diploma thesis, Thomas analysed the finance preferences for sustainability investments among German automotive sector SMEs.

Thomas Wagner is a German and Luxemburgish national.
