UBi Dialogue Forum 2025: When Business and Biodiversity Play in Harmony What happens when nature’s symphony falls silent? As ecosystems lose their rhythm, economies follow suit. At the UBi Dialogue Forum 2025, leaders from business, science, and policy explored how protecting biodiversity can strike the right chord for a resilient, future-ready economy. Imagine a string quartet performing Vivaldi’s “Summer” – full of rhythm, structure and vitality. Now imagine the birds and insects that once brought this music to life falling silent. That, said Sabine Riewenherm, President of the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN), is the state of many ecosystems today. And when nature loses its harmony, so too does the economy. On 17 June 2025, more than 300 participants from business, science, policy, and nature conservation gathered at the Allianz Forum in Berlin for the UBi Dialogue Forum. Organised by our project UBi: Business & Biodiversity, the event highlighted how biodiversity is becoming a strategic priority for businesses across sectors. As a project partner, the CSCP contributed both content and expertise – particularly in shaping the project’s biodiversity check for chemical and pharmaceutical industries and supporting knowledge transfer across industry networks. A highlight was the panel discussion, where voices from government, business and civil society illustrated how biodiversity is no longer a niche topic. “Protecting and restoring nature is not a luxury. It’s a vital investment in a resilient future,” said Dr Jochen Gebauer from the German Environment Ministry. Ørsted and WWF Germany demonstrated how integrating biodiversity into strategy and procurement has become core to their operations. Meanwhile, the German SME association (BVMW) urged for more practical tools to support small and medium-sized enterprises. Throughout the day, six expert forums took a deeper dive into biodiversity integration – including in the automotive, construction, chemical, and financial sectors. The CSCP co-led the forum on chemicals, where Senior Project Manager Dr. Esther Heidbüchel presented how the UBi Biodiversity-Check helps companies from the chemical and pharmaceutical industries assess their biodiversity risks and potentials. “There is not just one path forward – but many possible entry points. The key is to get started,” she emphasised. Whether in biodiversity-friendly coffee supply chains or sustainable construction, one message resonated throughout the forum: biodiversity is a foundation for future success. With the right tools, guidance, and networks, businesses can turn ecological responsibility into a competitive advantage. As biodiversity moves to the centre of sustainability agendas, the CSCP invites companies and stakeholders to engage with the tools, insights and networks developed through UBi. By embedding nature into business, we don’t just mitigate risks – we unlock innovation, resilience, and long-term value. The momentum is here—now is the time to act!
