Moreover, how to best empower and enable citizens to take an active role in designing public spaces that reflect their needs and are sustainable and inclusive? Join our CSR.digital Conference “Digital Approaches in Circular Economy” on 18 June 2021

As part of the German Digital Day (Digitaltag), the conference offers a platform for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to discuss how they could benefit from new developments in circular value creation in times of scarce resources. A paradigm shift in the logic of value creation from linear to circular models can help companies to position themselves better on the market and strengthen their resilience. A circular approach takes into account all stages of a product’s life cycle, from raw material extraction to use and disposal. This long and complex process can be supported with digitalisation. Digitalisation offers solutions for networking, […]

Operationalising Sustainable Digitalisation in a Business Context

Digitalisation has become a major transformational force affecting all areas of life. For companies, this change opens up new opportunities, intensifies interaction with customers and enables efficiency gains. However, this does not come without conditions: carbon footprint and rebound effects, privacy and data protection concerns, discriminatory practices, and digital and (social) exclusion are just some of the worrying aspects. Businesses are both drivers and driven by digitalisation. They have to digitalise their processes in order to remain competitive and, in the process, with their digital products and services they shape society. Consumer surveys show that companies are expected to shape digitalisation […]

Behaviour Change Projects in Action

Shorter showers, supporting sustainable fishing, and riding more e-bikes to work – the three Academy of Change (AoC) Catalyst pilots are changing behaviours on the ground toward more sustainability. As a special programme of the Academy of Change, the Catalyst is supporting non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to turn sustainable behaviour change knowledge into an asset for their projects. Shorter showers In Lyon, France, student accommodation providers CROUS are looking to reduce the environmental impact of their buildings. Competence Centre eStandards’ Virtual Barcamp: How the Participants Became Creators

In a virtual barcamp organised by the Competence Centre eStandards in May 2021, the participants were asked an open question: which topics related to sustainability and digitalisation are most interesting for SMEs, multipliers and other relevant stakeholders and how to approach them? With this broad guiding question, the barcamp offered a platform that allowed the participants to tailor the format and the content of the event to their specific needs. This led to candid discussions on sustainable digitalisation from different perspectives and with a focus on participation and creative exchange. Topic suggestions where pitched, voted and presented in different breakout sessions. […]

Digitalisation for a Good Life for All

Digitalisation — one of the key mega trends of our time — enables innovations and helps upscale existing ones, it accelerates processes and saves us time, it connects us and interconnects our work. On the downside, big data puts the security of personal information in jeopardy, automation makes the need for specific jobs shrink, huge amounts of energy are needed for data management and the benefits of digitalisation are not made available to everyone equally. The opportunities as well as the challenges call for an interlinkage of digitalisation to other mega trends, such as sustainability (mitigating climate change, protecting biodiversity, decreasing […]

Join Our #EUCircularTalk: The Circular Electronics Initiative – Insights on Skills on 25 May 2021

Worldwide, only 10% of all mobile phone users give back their old mobile phones, while 90% store immense treasures of resources in their drawers at home*. In a European context, the Commission’s Circular Electronics Initiative counts on consumers to bring unused small electronic devices back to the resource cycle. But, how can consumers be supported in closing the loop and who needs which skills for that? At the #EUCircularTalk The Circular Electronics Initiative: Insights on Skills, the CSCP brings together experts and stakeholders to discuss these questions and share ideas on next steps. The ‘right to repair’ and ‘take-back schemes’ are […]

We #MoveTheDate in Aachen and Wuppertal

The overshoot day marks the date when the used ecological resources and services exceed what Earth can regenerate in that year. For Germany, the overshoot day for 2021 was 5 May, 241 days before the actual end of the year. Amidst such overuse of the planet’s resources, questions such as how to act fast and design effective solutions are of urgency. Our project We #MoveTheDate: Local Responses for a Good Life is working closely with the cities of Aachen and Wuppertal to mobilise city-based initiatives that move the date. We #MoveTheDate aims to move the date by building synergies at two […]
