European food waste experts from WRAP, Wageningen University, the CSCP, Ecologic, Anthesis and others will demonstrate how actors in the food supply chain can effectively address food waste in an upcoming series of four webinars on ‘Tackling Food Waste Across the Supply Chain’. Food Waste Reduction Training With PENNY Apprentices Successfully Completed

By early summer 2018, almost 900 PENNY trainees had been trained on reducing food waste as part of a REFRESH pilot project in Germany. Now the food retailer PENNY and the CSCP wanted to know to what extent the topic was still fresh on the apprentices’ minds months after the training. Germany faces a significant shortage of skilled workers in a number of sectors. It is also home to a large number of refugees and asylum seekers. The Cooking Hope Project facilitates asylum seekers’ professional integration in the gastronomy sector as well as addressing the shortage of skilled labor in that sector. The policy paper, which is part of a series covering all major environmental challenges, not only shows that we need to change what we consume, but also how, how much and why! Besides spelling out the challenges, the paper also maps out what changes in European policies could help citizens live prosperous, peaceful and healthy lives by 2050, while sustaining the 80% reduction in per capita resource use.
