Check out our FoodLoops Manual on Cooperation for Circular Biowaste in Schools and Beyond! Food waste in the Baltic Sea Region poses a significant problem with countries like Lithuania generating around 50 kg of food waste per capita per year. Our FoodLoops project has developed the Cooperation for Circular Bio-Waste in Schools and Beyond manual to support key actors in finding efficient ways for collaboration and co-creation of impactful solutions. The purpose of the manual is to promote collaboration in the local food (waste) value chains, with a particular focus on circular biowaste management. It serves as a guide to enhance a better understanding of motivations and pain points of involved actors, ultimately identifying common ground and jointly developing solutions. The manual reflects the experiences of the project partners and is packed with real-life case studies, practical strategies, and stakeholder engagement approaches. The goal of the FoodLoops project is to advance biowaste management through robust stakeholder engagement. It empowers municipalities, educators, and caterers to separate biowaste at its source—for instance, in school canteens and kitchens. By working with the main actors in a holistic way, the project strives to develop solutions that transform unavoidable food waste into valuable products such as organic fertilisers. The manual can be easily adapted to various regional and local contexts and it is intended to be applied according to the unique conditions of each school food system.
