With integrity, competency, and collaboration at our core, the CSCP empowers people to give rise to impactful, visionary change across the globe.
About Us
The Collaborating Centre on Sustainable Consumption and Production (CSCP) is an international, non-profit think and do tank. Together with businesses, policy makers, partner organisations and civil society, we pursue our mission to mainstream sustainability toward our vision: enabling a good life for all.
By taking a holistic approach, we are able to identify and enable collaborations that lead to impactful solutions toward greater social and environmental sustainability.
Our Mission Statement
We follow a collaborative and inclusive approach along the following areas of expertise: Products & Services, Cities & Infrastructure, Policy, Lifestyles & Behaviour, and Business & Entrepreneurship, and with a special focus on cross-sectional topics: digitalisation, behaviour change, circular economy and climate and biodiversity. We leverage synergies and identify and enable promising collaborations that lead to impactful solutions. Read more about our areas of expertise as well as our key topics.
Within these topics, we offer our expertise and together with respective experts and relevant actors we identify, develop, and mainstream promising sustainable solutions.
We don’t just work with different groups in society, we work to bring them together. We strive to empower people, political institutions, and organisations of all types and across sectors, including businesses and civil society organisations, to achieve tangible sustainable impacts with positive global ripple effects.
All our efforts are directed toward mainstreaming social, environmental and economic sustainability to enable a good life for all.
Our Principles & Values
Integrity, competency, and collaboration drive everything we do. We feel a profound responsibility for this world and we strive to lead by example, endeavouring to collaborate with all the relevant actors in the decision-making processes.
We are driven by passion and purpose and strongly believe that taking ownership is critical to achieving meaningful and long-lasting change. We believe in equity, diversity, and inclusion and strive to achieve them internally as an organisation but also in our projects.
Our Goals
We are driven by the ambition to generate positive and long-term impact by approaching sustainability goals as interrelated and not advance one goal at the expense of another. We connect the dots and leverage synergies to advance major goals jointly and in line the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Paris Agreement, key European strategic frameworks, the German Sustainability Development Strategy, and other top priorities in the sustainability agenda at a local, regional, national, European, and international level.
Our Team
We combine the knowledge of various disciplines with expertise on both local and international levels for an integrative and coordinated approach. The CSCP is comprised of four teams. Three are structured around our areas of expertise: The Sustainable Lifestyles (SL Team), the Sustainable Infrastructure, Products, and Services (SIPS Team), and the Sustainable Business and Entrepreneurship (SBE Team). The fourth is CSCP’s enabler team, whose senior consultants provide project support with expert knowledge and skills, as well as IT, creative, and project acquisition.
Our organisation is fluid, and interdisciplinary teams are drawn together from across the groups, depending on the focus and expertise needed for the project at hand. Visit our team page to learn more about our team members!

History
In 2005, The CSCP emerged from a collaboration between the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy.
We are an international non-profit whose focus is the promotion of sustainable patterns of consumption and production (SCP). Since its inception, the CSCP has played an important role in working along with United Nations’ Member States towards a more sustainable future, focusing on the Sustainable Development Goals set out in 2015.
In the video on the left Klaus Töpfer, Peter Hennicke, and Ernst Ulrich von Weizsäcker speak about co-founding the CSCP.
"The CSCP supports us since many years in bringing sustainability into life. It helped us to set up a innovative strategy and to implement it in the whole company."
