Kick-off Meeting in Wuppertal Sets the Stage for CO₂ Performance Ladder Launch in Germany When it comes to halting and mitigating the impacts of climate change, sustainable procurement practices can be a powerful lever in driving positive change. The CO2 Performance Ladder is an effective tool that drives decarbonisation and innovation in organisations by serving both as a procurement instrument as well as a management system. Developed by the Foundation for Climate Friendly Procurement and Business (SKAO), the instrument has empowered organisations across Europe to manage and reduce their carbon footprint while gaining competitive advantages in public procurement processes. As of August 2024, the CSCP has taken on the role of national coordinator for the CO2 Performance Ladder in Germany, joining France, Portugal, Ireland and the UK in rolling out this CO2 management system and procurement tool. Recognising the urgent need for comprehensive ecological, social, and economic responsibility, the CSCP will lead efforts to integrate the Ladder into multiple public tenders over a one-year pilot phase. The CO2 Performance Ladder is an instrument that helps organisations reduce their carbon emissions in the organisation, in projects and in their supply chain. With a certificate on the Ladder, organisations can receive an award advantage for their registration on tenders. The instrument is used as both a CO2 management system as well as a procurement tool.
