What Does Sustainability Really Mean to Your Own Lifestyle?

Launched by the CSCP on 31 May 2016, #mylifestylepledge is a movement that is inspiring people worldwide to think about their way of living and take personal and concrete actions to live a more sustainable lifestyle now. It is all about changing by experiencing sustainability. Pledges are coming nonstop, from Europe and Africa to Latin America and beyond!

“My lifestyle pledge is changing my private bank [account] to a sustainable bank” —pledges at 3GF Mikkel Stenbaek Hansen, from the Danish Ministry of Environment. “My lifestyle pledge is less showers, less soaps and less loss of water” —pledges back Yvonne Zwick, from the German Council for Sustainable Development. Both challenged back their peers to make (and live) their pledges. See where this is going?

Since May 31st, hundreds of pledges have been coming from all sides and types of groups since based on the motto of experiencing sustainability with everyday actions. The result has been a wave of super inspiring pledges, sharing ideas and approaches to live more sustainably today, and getting increasing numbers of pledges on the table. High-level organisations are actively endorsing the movement including the German Council for Sustainable Development, WRAP in the UK, Akatu Institute for Conscious Consumption in Brazil, and the Switch Asia Network Facility.

This is how it works:

  1. Create your personal pledge for a more sustainable lifestyle: this should be a very concrete action about your everyday life
  2. Post your pledge with the hashtag #mylifestylepledge onto your Twitter wall or our Facebook page called mylifestylepledge. Pledges are all filtered by the website mylifestylepledge.net. At the end of this page you can also download #mylifestylepledge banner: be creative and use it together with your post and a photo of your pledge if you wish.
  3. Don’t forget to challenge the next person, be it your friend, your colleague or even your mayor or the CEO of your favourite company, to take a pledge as well!
  4. Keep sharing your pledge and progress with photos, videos, and insights; we are all excited to see the pledges in action.

Well, my lifestyle pledge is living with zero packaging waste for two weeks. I challenge you to make your lifestyle pledge.
