Policy Recommendation: Low Carbon and Resilient Mauritius

This policy recommendation is a result of the EU-funded Switch Africa Green Project Sustainable Island Mauritius (SIM), implemented by the Mauritius Tourism Authority (MTA) and the CSCP. It highlights promising solutions in the tourism industry that can support Mauritius to achieve the goal of becoming a Zero Carbon Destination by 2030 as well as to increase its resilience toward global and local challenges, including climate change and biodiversity loss. Specifically, these solutions aim to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by transitioning to electric in-lagoon (IL) boats, to protect the natural environment by introducing sustainable management practices in the golf sector, and to manage/restore natural ecosystems by applying the concept of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) in the tourism industry. The implementation of these recommendations can contribute to achieving climate targets and securing human well-being in the Republic of Mauritius.
