Using Social Norms to Reduce Food Waste: An Actor-Specific Guidance for All Actors This comprehensive guidance, developed within the CHORIZO Horizon Europe project, brings together insights from multiple actor groups to explore how social norms—unwritten rules shaping everyday behaviour—can be leveraged to reduce food loss and waste (FLW). Combining project research with established behaviour change approaches, it provides practical support for actors across cities, food banks, schools, retail, and food services. The document offers background knowledge, real-world examples, and a structured step-by-step framework to design, implement, and evaluate effective interventions. Aimed at diverse contexts and target groups, it equips stakeholders with the tools to integrate social norms into their strategies and actions. By applying these insights, organisations and communities can enhance the impact of their sustainability efforts and work more effectively towards reducing FLW. .
