He combines transdisciplinary approaches such as systems thinking and multi-stakeholder facilitation, and quantitative methods to support policy assessments, behavioural interventions, and food waste prevention. Areas of expertise Building on qualitative and quantitative methods, Luca contributes to core topics of the CSCP. His skills centre around stakeholder engagement, quantitative analysis, and systems thinking. Throughout his work at the CSCP, Luca has supported several stakeholder engagement formats, including Communities of Practice, Living Labs, and dialogue forums, to solve critical challenges in the field of food waste prevention and municipal circular economy. Recently, he expanded his skillset towards formats for democratic empowerment through community organising. Using descriptive and inferential statistics, Luca investigates large data sets to derive behavioural insights for the design of evidence-based behaviour change interventions and campaigns. He sees systems thinking as a transdisciplinary, practice-oriented tool and applies it through participatory system mapping and integrated policy assessments. Participatory mapping allows to integrate diverse actors, from marginalised groups to scientists and policy makers, in the identification of strategic leverage points in complex problems. Current work His current work focuses on two main areas: food loss and waste prevention and socially inclusive and democratic sustainability transitions. On food waste and loss prevention, he facilitates co-creation through designing and hosting Communities of Practice and facilitating European level exchange formats to identify and transfer promising practices. In close collaboration with retailers, he combines quantitative analysis and behavioural insights to co-design behaviour change campaigns and in-store interventions. On socially inclusive and democratic sustainability transitions towards a good life for all, Luca combines transdisciplinary methods with democratic facilitation formats. Using approaches such as participatory system mapping and collective policy assessments, he creates spaces for exchange between poverty-affected people, policy makers and researchers at municipal and state level. Previous experience Luca has a background in policy research, having contributed to the assessment of election promises on federal level for a large German foundation. He has a deep understanding of transition theories and circular economy concepts. Education Luca holds an MSc in Sustainability Science and Policy from Maastricht University and a BA in Political Science and Economics from Trier University. What fascinates me is how seemingly unrelated projects intersect over time to construct a network of efforts and practices that help transform our system towards an equitable future for all, bit by bit.
