Stephan is a Senior Project Manager at the CSCP who treats sustainability as a strategic necessity, not just an ecological duty – a lever for resilience, innovation capacity, and long-term economic success. He also founded and leads a sustainability and transformation consultancy and is an advocacy partner in international networks such as r3.0, which gives his CSCP work a strong bridge into industry, SMEs, and entrepreneurial practice. With more than 25 years across digital transformation and sustainable innovation, he is the person to talk to when technology and sustainability need to become one workable strategy rather than two competing agendas.

Areas of expertise

Stephan’s core capabilities span circular economy business models (R-strategies), digital product passports and data sovereignty, AI and digitalisation, and the integration of sustainability into corporate governance and CSRD-aligned reporting. He designs and manages R&D funding and public-procurement projects, develops new business models, and facilitates stakeholder engagement. What sets his work apart is the pairing of a systems-thinking perspective with hands-on delivery, so that digital tools, processes, and organisational culture reinforce rather than block sustainable change.

Current work

At the CSCP, Stephan’s work centres on two main strands. In the first, he helps SMEs in manufacturing, logistics, and recycling build efficient, sustainable, and digitally supported value-creation networks – turning digital product passports, AI, data sovereignty, and circular business models into practical guides, checklists, and hands-on training. In the second, he supports a city region on its path to becoming a model for the circular economy, working with public administration, business, science, and citizens in a co-participatory approach that turns circular strategy into pilot solutions across sectors such as construction, textiles, electronics, and food. Across both strands, he acts as a bridge between research, policy, and practice – and is a frequent keynote speaker, trainer, and mentor on digitalisation, AI, and the circular economy.

Previous experience

Before and alongside his sustainability work, Stephan built his track record in international industry – starting in digitalisation and application development – and then as founder of a consulting company delivering reporting, planning, and forecasting systems for large multinational corporations across several sectors. That path taught him to read corporate culture as the decisive factor in whether transformation succeeds, and to work confidently across the line between technical depth and organisational reality.
