How Europeans Can Hop on the Bicycle Highway to a Green Gym and Cycle to Healthier Sustainable Lifestyles @inheritEU#inherit#InheritYourFuture How would European societies look if they were healthier, sustainable, and equitable? This May, thirty experts set out to find answers to this question during the INHERIT scenario building expert workshop. The growing use of e-health services, a higher appreciation for well-being, and citizens as experts are only some of the directions identified by INHERIT as trends projected to shape European societies in the coming years. During the scenario building workshop organised by CSCP, the participants -experts in health and sustainability from all over Europe- had the opportunity to validate and rank these trends presented in a gallery walk. Participants also discussed how they are shaped by drivers like behaviour, values, and policies. The INHERIT consortium identified a number of promising approaches. These examples, stemming from all over Europe, show how active mobility, the use of green spaces, more energy efficient housing, and sustainable food and beverage consumption can be encouraged. The workshop participants discussed how 20 of these practices could look like in the year 2040 if scaled up to reach more people and have a higher impact. Examples included “The altruistic gym: helping you, helping me, helping us”, a concept for working out by engaging in practical activities such as planting trees, sowing meadows, and establishing wildlife ponds. This approach featuring personalised activities has the potential to reach even more people with companies incentivising their employees to join. The outcomes of the discussions and expert inputs will be used to create the project’s future scenarios for 2040. And this September, a back-casting workshop will develop policy route maps for achieving the scenarios. Please contact Rosa Strube if you have any questions.
