Dubai Expo: Join us at the Circular Europe Days on 17 & 18 January 2022!

Electronic devices have become an integral part of our everyday life, making it more convenient in many dimensions. On the downside, landfills are full of old devices; the overexploitation of rare resources and the precarious labour conditions call for immediate action. Key European actors are collaborating in formats such as the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform (ECESP) to find innovative solutions and pave pathways that address these problems efficiently. Join us at the European Circular Days as part of the Dubai Expo, 17 & 18 January 2022, for further insights and to engage in discussions!

To surmount the challenges related to the production and consumptions practices of electronic devices, the European Commission has announced a Circular Electronics Initiative. A central part of the initiative is ensuring longer lifespans of electronic appliances. This can be achieved by implementing circular economy strategies, such as recycling, reusing and repairing. For these strategies to work, they must be implemented along the whole lifecycle of products – from design to manufacturing, retail, consumption and use, and end of life. A digital product passport could support to better understand and evaluate these lifecycle steps.

However, to successfully implement strategies and make efficient use of new tools, the actors involved should have the necessary skills. The question is: How can re-skilling and upskilling work for different stakeholder groups in order to accelerate the transition to circular electronics?

The Circular Europe Days, organised in a webinar format, aim at finding answers to such questions by facilitating a constructive dialogue between actors and confronting different stakeholder perspectives. During the event, EU experts will give insights about current activities at an EU level while representatives of businesses, cities, and consumers will identify further challenges and discuss possible solutions that can also be transferred to other regions of the world.
