Enabling Regional Manufacturing Companies to Go Circular

The Bergisch City Triangle in Germany—comprising Wuppertal, Solingen, and Remscheid—has long been known for its metal-based products like tools and knives. While this industry remains a global hallmark, it faces the urgent need for a circular transformation to remain competitive.

The new project, bergisch.kompetenz, spearheaded by the CSCP and partners, aims to drive this shift by working closely with local SMEs. The project will address key areas such as company culture, leadership, workflows, products, and technology, developing tailored, practical solutions that companies can implement.

Starting with an in-depth analysis of the region’s circularity landscape, the initiative will identify specific needs and establish a competence center to support businesses with targeted, sustainable solutions. The project draws on diverse expertise, from labor research and circular economy to psychology and technical production, ensuring that theoretical concepts are turned into actionable practices.

Leveraging its experience in sustainable transformation, the CSCP will support SMEs in adapting to this shift, empowering key players to lead meaningful change.

The project is funded by the European Fund for Regional Development (EFRE) and co-financed by the Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Transport of North-Rhine Westphalia. The project duration is from April 2024 until March 2027 and the consortium is led by Neue Effizienz.
