Toward a European Bioeconomy: Don’t Miss Our Scalibur Project Final Event on 19 October 2022!

Rethinking municipal solid waste management is a central element in the transition to a circular and bio-economy. Yet, this remains a significant challenge for many European cities. A successful implementation of a circular and bio-economy needs to account for a reduction in the amount of (bio)waste deposited in landfills while enhancing the share of (bio)waste that can be returned to the system after recycling.

In the course of four years, the SCALIBUR project worked together with a wide array of stakeholders to inspire a revolution in urban (bio)waste recycling in Europe. Leading waste management companies, technology developers and research organisations have teamed up with four European cities – Lund (Sweden), Madrid (Spain), Albano Laziale (Italy) and Kozani (Greece) – and demonstrated innovative solutions to transform urban food waste and sewage sludge into value-added products. The project has helped European cities to improve their (bio)waste collection, transport, sorting and pre-treatment, and enhance local stakeholders’ and citizens’ awareness, contributing to the creation of new circular economy business opportunities.

At the final event, “Breaking barriers for getting the most out of biowaste: From smart collection to innovative valorisation”, the project team and partners will share insights, lesson learned and main results of the SCALIBUR project. The conference will be a chance to discuss future prospects with the participating companies, the cities as well as SCALIBUR’s sister projects, VALUEWASTE and WaySTUP.

The SCALIBUR team invites actors from the hospitality sector, retail companies, policymakers, researchers, investors and all other actors involved in (bio)waste management to join the event! Find further details on the SCALIBUR website!
