How Can We Live Sustainably Every Day – An Invitation to Citizens of Wuppertal and Aachen to Join “We #MoveTheDate” Workshops in September and October 2021 #MoveTheDate Despite growing climate and environmental literacy, changing our behaviour to live more sustainably can still be challenging. The project We #MoveTheDate invites citizens of Wuppertal and Aachen to join workshops and share what motivates but also hinders them in applying new behaviours. In a separate workshop, we discuss ways to support and enable civil society organisations to activate peers and fellow citizens to #MoveTheDate. The project We #MoveTheDate has looked at city level solutions as well as at projects of local community groups within the cities of Wuppertal and Aachen that have the potential to move the date of Earth Overshoot Day. However, translating what sustainability means for us individually and how to integrate it into our everyday lives can be tricky. This is where the project ties into. In close collaboration with the city administrations of Wuppertal and Aachen, the project will zoom in on one topic per city to shed light on the potential toward a sustainable change in the specific area. This will be carried out through collaborative workshops with the citizens. Drawing on behavioural insights and research, the civil society will be invited to jointly identify and discuss barriers and opportunities for local change on the topic of mobility in Aachen and the topic sustainable food consumption in Wuppertal. Aachen: Mobility In view of the European Mobility Week, a series of three workshops will dive deep on the topic of mobility and the question: What makes us decide for or against certain means of transport when not using the car? The aim is to develop a better understanding of the mobility behaviour of citizens in the districts of Eilendorf, Haaren and Brand in the city of Aachen. All residents of these districts interested in the topic are invited to join the workshop, share their thoughts and pitch their ideas. The workshops for the three different districts are free of charge and will take place on the following dates: Eilendorf – 20 September 2021, 19:30 Haaren – 21 September 2021, 19:30 Brand – 22 September 2021, 19:30 Registrations are limited to 15 participants per districts and can be made until the 12 September 2021 here. Wuppertal: Good Food for a Good Climate Co-hosted by the Bergische Volkshochschule, families, including children, are invited to explore questions like: What does our food have to do with the climate? How does buying groceries like tomatoes, butter or rice influence climate change? Together with the participants, the project team will work out what is important in terms of food consumption and preparation and how our dinner table behaviour impacts the climate. These insights will then guide the search for any potentials to adapt to more sustainable diets. The workshop is free of charge and will take place at the Bergische Volkshochschule on 7 October 2021, 17:30-20:00. To register, please go here.
