Review of Clean Finance Instruments and Recommendations for Their Adoption in Pakistan

This report reviews clean financing instruments and provides recommendations for their adoption in Pakistan. The report is designed to inform the financial institutions that are active in the field of green financing, including commercial, public as well as research ones on: the state of renewable energy in the country, challenges to the financing of renewable energy globally, and existing clean financing instruments to remove barriers to the up-take of renewable energy projects. The findings of the report draw upon interviews with the representatives of leading Development Finance Institutes (DFIs), Commercial Finance Institutes (CFIs) as well as reputed research organisations. The report concludes with recommendations on how to improve financing for renewable energy projects. It suggests how to tap into potential of public finance for incentivising more private investments in renewable energy.
